Programming is the process of designing and building an executable computer program for accomplishing a specific computing task. Programming involves tasks such as: analysis, generating algorithms, profiling algorithms’ accuracy and resource consumption, and the implementation of algorithms in a chosen programming language (commonly referred to as coding).

Coastech Empowerment Community  organized a forum Sponsored by innovus Group  in collaboration with Swahilipot Hub on a programming language Hypertext Preprocessor (PHP).This forum was held on 10th August 2019 that set to bring developers together to  exchange ideas,talk about code, architecture, innovation and open source in general .

The program started off at 10:15am where the Executive Director  introduced himself and his team members who were present then gave a brief introduction about  CTEC.

Next on Mukhtar then introduced the facilitator Mr Swaleh.A.Ahmed who gave his brief bio and then proceeded by explaining;

What is Web Programming?

Which refers to  a writing, markup and coding involved in web development which includes web content, web client and server scripting and network security.He then mentioned some of the  common languages used for Web Programming : XML, HTML, Javascript and Php.

A demonstration was done on how scripting is between the client and the server and also gave languages used by the client to be; HTML, CSS, Javascript while the server  uses Php, ASP, Ruby on Rails and Python.

He went on by explaining on Superglobal  variables;











Afterwards  the attendees were able to install and configure Wamp server in their devices  for practicals. The practicals included;

  1. Handling of form data.

  2. PHP include and require statements.

  3. PHP +MySQL Database System

  4. Database Queries

  5. Use of MySQLi  or PDO.


Later a break of 30 minutes was  given where snacks were provided to the attendees. After which they  moved on to;

  1. Opening a connection to database.

  2. Inserting of data into MySQL using MySQLi and PDO

  3. Selecting data from MySQL database.


Then a five minutes session was given for Q and A.

Iftisam then took over by introducing herself and giving the registration form to the attendants.

Mukhtar then finalized the session by a word of thanks to the attendants and asked them for  feedback regarding the whole session. Some of them were:

  • The session was too deep to have it in one day.

  • Have a series of sessions.

  • The facilitator was good in explaining.


The program ended with a word of prayer at 1:30pm.
