Sim swap fraud is an increasingly common form of SMS messaging fraud that has destructive potential. It is very necessary for the public to be aware of this in order to avoid being exposed to vulnerabilities.

Coastech Empowerment Community hence succeeded in hosting a half-day event on Sim-Swap Fraud on Saturday, 27th October, 2018 from 11:00am to 1:00pm at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) to create awareness about it.

The event kicked-off by an introduction to CTEC by Iftisam Mohammed who was assisted by Shehnaz Abubakar. The other members of CTEC also introduced themselves to the audience.

Mukhtar Salim then introduced the first speaker, Swaleh Abubakar who took the audience through sim swap scams and frauds. How one can identify a scam and prevent from it.

Later the attendees raised some question based on the matter which led to a very engaging session.

Later on, the second speaker, Julius Njiraini from Kenya Cyber Security & Forensics Association, talked about How to respond to cyber security incidents.

How companies should act where there is a data breach and actions needed to be taken up.

Finally, Eric Ngumi then took over and educated the audience on cyber security and forensics as a career, its challenges and the future of the same. What the market is offering in the security field.

He was able to show us a clear field on where one could start and the opportunity which readily available in the market

Finally, there was a Q&A session for the panelists which included the three (3) speakers and the audience were also given an opportunity to ask questions they had.
